INTRODUCTION Youwell is proud to have developed and implemented a national platform for eBehandling, formerly known as eMeistring , which is now used by all healthcare organizations in Norway. This represents a historic collaboration and a significant investment within the Norwegian healthcare system. The platform makes guided internet treatment available to patients across the country, and is an example of how technology can improve the availability and quality of mental health care.
BACKGROUND
eMeistring, which started as a project in Helse Bergen in 2012, has proven to be effective for the treatment of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
With positive results and broad acceptance among both patients and health personnel, all health regions decided to collaborate on a joint procurement and implementation of the service, now known as eBehandling.
Youwell was chosen as the supplier to develop and adapt the digital treatment programs, and work started in early 2023. IMPLEMENTATION AND SCALING
The work with the implementation of eBehandling has involved careful coordination and cooperation between the health organizations and Youwell. The project followed a comprehensive schedule that included preparations and planning in the spring, testing and adaptation in the summer, and a gradual start-up in all health regions in autumn 2024. By the end of 2024, eBehandling will be available to patients across the country. TREATMENT PROGRAMS
On the Youwell platform, a number of e-treatment programs have been developed, including:
Panic disorder: ↗️ The treatment program contains elements of cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapy to help patients manage and reduce panic attacks.
Social Anxiety : The program focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy, with the goal of reducing social anxiety through exposure therapy and the development of social skills.
Depression : This program offers cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients identify and change negative thought patterns, and includes techniques to improve mood and increase activity levels.
Alcohol : A treatment program that combines cognitive behavioral therapy with motivational talking to help patients reduce or stop alcohol consumption.
Insomnia : Digital intervention for patients with insomnia, developed in collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet. The program consists of modules with psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy and sleep strategies.
Gambling addiction : The program includes psychoeducation and techniques to deal with impulse control and develop healthy habits, with the support of a therapist.
ADVANTAGES OF eBehandling
Accessibility: Patients can receive treatment regardless of geographical location.
Flexibility: Treatment can be carried out at your own pace and adapted to individual needs.
Effectiveness: Guided internet therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional therapy.
Resource utilization: The therapists can treat three times as many patients as with physical attendance, which reduces waiting times.
Research shows that eBehandling has had significant positive effects on patients' mental health. 62% of patients report a significant improvement, with reduction of anxiety-specific symptoms and improved quality of life. Patients also experience shorter waiting times and a lower threshold for getting help.
YOUWELL'S ROLE
Youwell has been responsible for service design, user studies (patients and healthcare personnel), development, adaptation, management and operation of the digital platform. The development process has been based on service design and user insight work, followed by agile development in iterations. Throughout the establishment phase, the eBehandlingsklinikkenne have received extensive training and follow-up.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
With eBehandling, the Norwegian healthcare system is taking a big step forward in the digitization of mental healthcare. This project is an example of how technology can be used to improve health and care services, and we look forward to seeing the positive effects for patients across the country.
