Research on digital patient pathways, without manual overhead
Build different digital patient pathways, research their effect, and carry what works forward into the service afterwards. Youwell makes it easier to run studies with digital follow-up of participants over time - in one single platform.
A rich dataset that makes it possible to understand the effect of digital patient pathways
Challenges in research projects
Much of the time in a project goes into administering the data collection rather than the analysis.
- Bespoke technical development for each study, which takes time and costs a lot
- Data collection tools that come alongside the intervention itself, not integrated into it
- A lot of manual work compiling, chasing, and following up participants
- Not a rich enough dataset - few variables, infrequent measurement points, and poor linkage to actual use
- Unclear traceability of when answers were given and which form version applied
- The intervention can't be carried into clinical operation without new technical development
A shared platform for intervention and data collection means the measurement plan only has to be set up once, and what works can be adopted into the service afterwards.
How Youwell creates value
Youwell is developed in collaboration with research groups, and gives researchers control over the entire setup themselves - from intervention to data collection.
- Build your own treatment programmes and patient pathways yourself, without development support
- Set up questionnaires, advanced scoring, and flagging according to your own criteria
- Configure logging tools and diaries tailored to exactly what you need to measure
- Bring in sensor data and view it alongside the participant's own logs
- Control the flow of assignment for all content - who gets what, and when
- A library of validated questionnaires, ready to use directly
- Exports in CSV or Excel with an automatically generated codebook
- The same setup can be carried into clinical operation after the project ends
Typical use cases
Below are the use cases we see most often - they can be combined and adapted, and are all built from the same building blocks: modules, forms, diaries, logging, tasks, dialogue, video, messages, notifications, flagging, and data exports.
Research on digital treatment and follow-up
From feasibility and pilot studies to full-scale RCTs - build and test digital interventions such as self-help, guided treatment, rehabilitation, coping programmes, or patient follow-up. Different variants are assigned to different study arms through programme profiles, and assignment, access timing, and actual use are logged, so adherence can be analysed alongside the outcome measures.
Repeated data collection over time
Longitudinal designs are set up with measurement points offset in days from the participant's start date, with their own reminders per measurement point. The pathway report shows how many have received and completed each form, and who's missing. Dropout can be tracked as it happens rather than discovered during analysis.
Diaries and brief logging in everyday life
The participant keeps a diary or answers a few questions on their phone several times a day or week, in the middle of their normal routine. Each response is stored with a timestamp, so the project can see how things fluctuate through the day and week - not just how the participant sums up the last month in one long form. The responses can be viewed alongside data from activity trackers.
Electronic outcome measures with traceability
Validated instruments are set up as forms with a fixed scoring rule and version history, and published versions are locked. Exports happen in a structured format with a codebook, and the logs show when each response was given. Multiple form versions are supported in the same export, so changes along the way don't break the dataset.
Sensor and activity data alongside self-reporting
Data from activity trackers, health sensors, and health apps can be brought in via integration and viewed alongside the participant's own logs. Each measurement gets metadata on source, timestamp, and device type. This makes it possible to study the relationship between objective measures and patient-reported measures.
Study information and consent digitally
Study information and consent text are provided in the solution, with a log of what the participant has been given access to. The participant can find the information again later in the pathway. The project can document what's been communicated, as part of the basis for the ethics committee and data protection officer.
Sharing data with a research registry
Participants in a service can be asked to share de-identified logs for a defined research purpose. Sharing is a separate action that can be given and withdrawn, and the export only goes to the purpose the request describes. This makes it possible to make data from ordinary use available for research.
From pilot to operation in the same tool
An intervention tested in a project can be carried into clinical use on the same platform, without new technical development. Forms, modules, and measurement points from the study are kept, and research-specific elements can be switched off in the operational version. This shortens the distance between project and service.
Youwell has been a technology partner in several research projects and centres. The examples show how design, intervention, and data collection are set up in practice.
See customer storiesAuthor, deliver, and analyse - in one platform
Author
The project sets up the intervention, form packages, measurement points, and study arms - with version control and tags for later export.
Deliver
Participants are followed up with reminders, dialogue, and any video touchpoints, and response rates are tracked per measurement point.
Analyse
Data is exported as CSV or Excel with a codebook, or via API to your own analysis environment and data warehouse.
