Diakonhjemmet Hospital is a forward-thinking hospital that uses digital patient follow-up to make better use of resources and understand patients' needs between consultations. Three programmes have been built on the Youwell platform, for patients with gout, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

The challenge

Diakonhjemmet Hospital wanted to give patients with rheumatic conditions better tools to manage their condition from home, with closer and more continuous follow-up than fixed outpatient check-ups alone could provide.

How Youwell addressed the challenge

Youwell has delivered a digital platform with three specially developed apps: URIKA for gout, which helps the patient track symptoms, receive diet and lifestyle advice, and get medication reminders; OA-AID for osteoarthritis patients, which provides decision support and information about treatment options; and NOR-Flare for rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatic conditions, which combines symptom tracking, treatment guidance, and lifestyle advice.

Results customers experience

  • Reduced need for in-person consultations, freeing up resources and giving healthcare staff better use of their time
  • Better control over disease conditions, with faster treatment adjustments based on real-time data
  • Higher patient engagement in their own treatment, resulting in better adherence
  • Fewer admissions and emergency visits, as a result of better follow-up and prevention of complications
