eBehandling is guided internet-based treatment offered for a range of conditions at hospitals in specialist healthcare. Patient and clinician collaborate throughout the pathway, and the patient gets access to a digital treatment programme. Youwell delivers the platform to all 21 health trusts in Norway - one platform for eBehandling and other digital treatment programmes.
The challenge
The health trusts faced growing capacity challenges and rising waiting lists, and needed to find ways to deliver more treatment with the same resources. At the same time, more and more patients were asking for digital services, and some patients could not or did not want to attend treatment in person. An equally important challenge was structural: the health trusts and health regions wanted to collaborate on building treatment programmes together, so that a programme built in one place could be scaled and adopted across all health trusts - which required a shared, interregional agreement covering every health trust in Norway.
How Youwell addressed the challenge
Through a national procurement, all 21 health trusts in Norway gained access to the Youwell platform. The platform is used in line with a stepped care approach - to create coping programmes, self-help, and courses - but the main use is building national eBehandling programmes that are scaled and rolled out across the health trusts. Among other things, eBehandling programmes have been built for alcohol use, anxiety in children and young people, depression, the gut-brain school, panic disorder, gambling addiction, and social anxiety, with more than 20 new programmes under development. A national library makes distribution easy, and the platform is integrated with electronic health record systems, data warehouses, and quality registries.
