Youwell AS, in collaboration with subcontractor KBB Medic AS, has entered into an agreement on
the development of a headache diary, especially designed to support the research efforts of Norsk
center for headache research (NorHead) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
The assignment's background and purpose
NTNU is an internationally recognized university with a broad academic spectrum, and NorHead plays a key role in their research efforts. The aim of this project is to further develop an existing headache application into an advanced research tool. This application will not only help users register and monitor their headaches, but also collect valuable data for the NorHead Research Register. This will increase the understanding of headaches and contribute to developing new and better treatment methods.
About the solution:
Youwell in collaboration with KBB Medic will deliver the Headache Diary app which will be further developed. The headache diary is an advanced and user-friendly app for recording and monitoring headaches. Since its launch in 2020, the app has been downloaded over 54,000 times, making it one of the most popular health apps in Norway. It has been developed in collaboration with headache experts and neurologists, and gives users a comprehensive overview of the development of the headache, as well as the opportunity to share information with their doctor, which improves communication and contributes to better treatment.
" KBB Medic is proud to have won a public tender together with Youwell AS where we together will
deliver a digital headache diary and research solution. Since 2013, KBB has been dedicated to developing forward-looking and modern digital health tools. Our focus lately has been the Headache Diary app, which played a central role in the tender. "We look forward to continuing the fruitful collaboration with Youwell, which has been an invaluable partner throughout the process, " says Bjarte Nore, CEO of KBB Medic AS.
The Youwell platform is a robust and flexible platform for development, implementation and research on digital healthcare services. It meets all requirements according to the GDPR and the Norm for information security and privacy in the health and care sector (the Norm), which ensures that personal and health information is processed with the highest degree of security and integrity. The platform is approved for use in health and care services as well as research contexts.
Integration and functionality
Through the Headache Diary, users will have the opportunity to consent to participation in the NorHead Research Register, which is integrated with the Youwell platform. This ensures secure storage of personal and health information in the Youwell platform and transfer to NTNU's servers on HUNT Cloud. The app also provides the opportunity to participate in other clinical studies under NorHead, where the research data is stored in the Youwell platform.
"The Norwegian Center for Headache Research (NorHead) is a national research center led by NTNU. The collaboration with Youwell and the Headache Diary gives us the opportunity to further develop a headache diary that is already used by many people with headaches in Norway. Our aim is to develop an app that is maximally useful for people with headaches - and for their therapists, if the user chooses to share the information with them.At the same time, users will have the opportunity to share the information they register about their headaches with NorHead for research, thus helping to improve the understanding and treatment of headache diseases. The opportunity to collect ongoing information from a large proportion of people with headache disease in Norway makes this project unique in a world context." says Trine Aakvik Strand, PhD, CEO of NorHead , Department of Neuromedicine and Movement Sciences, NTNU
Benefits for users and researchers
The solution ensures a seamless experience for users, while also giving researchers access to valuable data to drive new knowledge and improve treatments for headache disorders. The collaboration between Youwell AS and KBB Medic AS combines the expertise within research platforms, medical technology and app development to deliver a solution that satisfies strict requirements for data protection and user-friendliness.
"The award from NTNU is a major milestone for us, and we are excited about the future opportunities this recognition brings. We believe that our combined expertise will lead to even more breakthrough solutions in healthcare, and we are eager to explore potential synergies in the medical conditions we are most focused on currently, such as COPD, Migraine, Cluster Headaches, Asthma, Spasticity, Endometriosis and IBS ” concludes Dr. Nore.
