The Youwell platform gets artificial intelligence: launching machine learning in the healthcare sector

Machine learning (ML) is a technique within artificial intelligence (AI) that can be used to solve different tasks. In Youwell, we have implemented machine learning where algorithms can analyze large amounts of different data, which can improve the healthcare sector by providing better opportunities for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and self-help.

Using digital tools in the health service will generate large amounts of user data. In Youwell, you can anonymize user data and use machine learning on (sensitive) health data, while safeguarding privacy, data security and patient integrity. Furthermore, you will be able to systematise, present, analyze and predict this data in an intuitive way.

This provides great potential for research and quality improvement of the health service. For example, machine learning can be used to predict the probability of dropping out of a digital intervention or to adapt a treatment program based on a person's profile.

We use Microsoft Azure Machine Learning as our platform, and have developed a flexible machine learning pipeline that performs the entire machine learning process in the cloud (from data exploration and cleaning, to model deployment). This can be used in a wide range of use cases. We are able to train algorithms, including deep neural networks, which are particularly powerful when it comes to identifying patterns in large amounts of data, for example from wearable sensors and technologies.

We believe that artificial intelligence is one of the most promising technologies for improving the healthcare service, and are happy that we can now solve more challenges with the help of machine learning.
